STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Handelsbanken has been found to have contravened the Stockholm Stock Exchange's listing agreement by not handling price-sensitive information correctly. The Stockholm Stock Exchange's Disciplinary Committee has ordered Handelsbanken to pay a fine of SEK 3 million. According to the Stockholm Stock Exchange's listing agreement, an interim report must be made public by submitting the report to at least two established news agencies and at least three national daily newspapers. The interim report must then be made available on the company's website as soon as possible. It is the obligation of the listed company to ensure that information from the report is not leaked in advance. At 12:39 p.m. on October 24, 2006, Handelsbanken released its report on the third quarter of 2006....

TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - The head of the Tokyo Stock Exchange will hold talks with officials of the New York Stock Exchange and the two sides hope to agree on a tie-up as soon as possible, a spokesman for the TSE said. The spokesman said TSE president Taizo Nishimuro would visit New York later this month. "Our president is to meet officials of the New York Stock Exchange during his stay in New York," the spokesman said. "As we have already announced, we are considering a tie-up with New York. It is natural for him to discuss the issue," he said. "We want to conclude the deal as soon as possible, but so far there is no plan to make an announcement there," he added. The spokesman also said the TSE's talks with the London Stock Exchange and Deutsche Boerse were still going on....

Blair to Propose Bill to Protect Stock Exchange, People Say

Nov. 13 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair will this week propose laws to protect the regulation of London Stock Exchange Plc in the event of an acquisition by a foreign rival, according to people with knowledge of the government's plans. The bill will be presented by Queen Elizabeth II in a ceremony to mark the formal opening of Parliament in London on Nov. 15, said the people, who declined to be identified because the bill isn't yet public. Nasdaq Stock Market Inc's bid this year for LSE, Europe's biggest equities market by value of listed companies, fueled speculation that some U.S. rules, such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, may be applied in the event of a takeover. Sarbanes-Oxley imposed stricter accounting rules and penalties on publicly traded companies in the U.S....

Zimbabwe: POSB to List On Stock Exchange

WHILE the market is still digesting its surprise swoop on CFX Financial Services two months ago the People's Own Savings Bank (POSB) has pulled another shocker by announcing that it now plans to list on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. POSB chief executive, Admore Kandlela, said by 2008 POSB will be listed on the stock exchange. "When I joined POSB bank I had a personal mandate that by 2008 I should have the people's bank listed on the market. I believe that target is still achievable," Kandlela said. Although he could not reveal the specific date for the listing, Kandlela said the mass market bank has already started doing the groundwork. "It is in fact one of our major aims that we have set for ourselves and we are working towards that goal." There are indications that the bank which has three million depositors has already started working on the eventual listing with information that that the parastatal is making moves to acquire government's stake in CFX....

LONDON (AFX) - The London Stock Exchange PLC said the average number of daily transactions on its SETS electronic trading platform rose 45 pct in October. In its latest monthly market update, the LSE said there were an average of 331,378 SETS trades per day in October, up from 228,793 in the same period last year. The figures confirm a trend towards steadily rising equity trading volumes in London and other exchanges worldwide, fuelled by increased use of computerised trading and the growing influence of active investors such as hedge funds. The Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre has issued a decision admitting the Sacombank Securities Co. Ltd. (SBS) as its 16th member. Under the decision, SBS, which is an affiliate of the Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Sacombank), is allowed to engage in securities brokerage and trading, securities portfolio management, securities underwriting and investment, securities depository and financial consultancy. SBS was set up on Oct. 20 this year with a chartered capital of 300 billion VND (roughly 18.7 million USD), becoming one of the largest securities companies in Viet Nam. ....

LONDON (AP) -- An al-Qaida operative who planned to blow up the New York Stock Exchange, the World Bank and landmark London hotels was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday in the most sweeping terror case in Britain since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The judge told Dhiren Barot he must serve at least 40 years in prison. "You have chosen to use your life to bring death and destruction to the Western world," Judge Neil Butterfield said as he passed the sentence. "You planned to slaughter hundreds, if not thousands, of wholly innocent men, women and children." Butterfield described the plans as determined, sophisticated and deadly. "You were planning to bring indiscriminate carnage, bloodshed and butchery - first in Washington, Newark and New York - and then London," Butterfield said....

London Stock Exchange eyes partnership with Tokyo: report

TOKYO - The London Stock Exchange has proposed an operational tie-up with its Tokyo counterpart, including the cross-listing of exchange-traded funds, a newspaper said on Saturday. A senior LSE official presented the plan during a visit to the Tokyo Stock Exchange last month, the the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said. The proposal also calls for the exchanges to jointly develop a stock-trading system and take measures to stimulate start-up markets, the business daily said. Through the operational alliance, we hope to spur both markets, an LSE official told the daily, adding that capital ties are not under consideration at present. The TSE, which is also in partnership talks with the New York Stock Exchange, has agreed to consider the proposal, the newspaper said. Taizo Nishimuro, head of the TSE, said last week the bourse was open to tie-up talks with any global counterpart, stressing that a proposed alliance with the New York Stock Exchange was not exclusive....
