| Lemon law can help if your car purchase turns sour | | Posted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 2:55:04 PM by Blog57 Team | | Imagine having bought the car of your dreams and a few months later, something goes wrong with it. That's what happened to Shawn Chastain of Frisco. He bought a new 2004 Nissan Armada SUV, and about five months later, he noticed that the "service engine soon" indicator came on and stayed on. He took the vehicle to the dealership, which didn't find anything wrong, despite the service alert. "The dealership tried to repair it six times and could never get it to stay off," Mr. Chastain said. "They never did diagnose what the issue was. They tried something different every time and never could figure out what the problem was." Nissan then dispatched a "traveling field specialist," who replaced 12 engine components and still couldn't get the indicator to remain off.... | |

| | | Company car tax to make up for NII break to working poor | | Posted Wednesday, November 15, 2006 6:55:16 AM by Blog57 Team | | The head of the Israel Tax Authority (ITA), Jackie Matza, recently proposed to Finance Minister Abraham Hirchson to use the increased tax revenues from the reforms on taxing company cars in place of the income from the National Insurance Institute (NII) payments for low-income workers. Hirchson passed on the proposal to the Bachar Committee studying a negative income tax. According to the present tax regulations, workers with incomes up to NIS 4,170 a month pay 0.4 percent of their salaries to the NII. According to the ITA's proposal, and as part of the cabinet's efforts to improve the situation of the weaker segments of the population, these low-income wage earners would be released from NII contributions. .... | |

| | | Carmakers direct more ads toward children | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 3:17:46 AM by Blog57 Team | | Carmakers are increasingly targeting a new set of car buyers: ones who can't drive yet. A growing number of auto companies are trying to place ads and products in child-oriented areas such as gyms that cater to kids, social-networking sites where young people hang out and the Saturday morning cartoons. Their aim is to spur sales to parents -- and, down the road, to the children themselves. My Gym Enterprises Inc., a chain of franchise gyms in South Florida and around the country for kids between 3 months of age and 13 years old, is in talks with at least three carmakers to pick an auto sponsor that could advertise in the gym and incorporate miniature vehicles into classes. In Whyville.net, a virtual world where almost 2 million children ages 8 to 15 hang out, kids can now buy virtual Scion xBs if they have enough "clams," Whyville's monetary unit.... | |

"We would love to see the Sonics stay, and we think there is a funding package out there that will allow them to do so," Trent House, the association's government affairs director, told the Seattle P-I. "We are more than willing to help the new owners." A representative for Hertz and Avis also told the P-I the rental car giants are open to keeping a 1 percent rental car tax in place to help fund a new Sonics arena. Support from the business groups comes as the Sonics' new owners are quietly putting together an arena-funding package the team plans to unveil after Thanksgiving.... | |

| | | Certified Pre-Owned Programs Drive More Car Sales | | Posted Monday, November 06, 2006 7:03:08 PM by Blog57 Team | | Experian Automotive and Cars.com today announced details of new studies that independently measured the impact of certification on vehicle sales and consumer awareness of certified programs and their features. According to the findings, Cars.com shoppers who submitted leads to dealerships on certified vehicles had a shorter time to purchase, were more likely to buy within the brand for which they sent their initial lead and were far more likely to upgrade to a new car purchase. The findings stem from an Experian Automotive analysis of 345,000 email leads sent by Cars.com shoppers between January 2005 and February 2006. Among these shoppers, 66 percent purchased a vehicle within the analysis timeframe. On average, shoppers that sent leads on certified vehicles bought a car seven days faster than non-certified lead senders.... | |

| | | New car prices to drop 5% in January | | Posted Saturday, November 04, 2006 3:06:50 PM by Blog57 Team | | The Finance Ministry yesterday announced its update to new car price brackets, used to assess taxes on cars, which will take effect this coming January. As expected, the drop in the price brackets is between 5 to 7 percent. While these prices are set by the treasury and used only for tax purposes, they directly affect the price of most new cars. Car importers will likely be forced to lower prices by a similar amount - even for those cars sold to leasing fleets, as well as those sold to private customers. .... | |
